Fire Scout UAS

For approximately fifteen (15) years, Sechan has manufactured and tested five (5) signal conditioning, processing, and interface units for an autonomous Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). The UAS units are vital to providing Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Target-acquisition (ISR&T), laser designation, and battle management to tactical users.

Initially, Sechan’s contract award was to produce the five (5) units as a build-to-print effort. However, once Sechan reviewed the provided technical data package, numerous issues were discovered. Sechan documented the issues and provided solutions through means of supplying Engineering Change Orders (ECO) to the customer, processing hundreds of changes to nearly every document.

Additional concerns were identified as a result of Sechan’s functional and Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) tests, as well as through feedback from the customer’s air vehicle testing. After a potential solution was determined, Sechan implemented and tested the solution, providing results and observations to the customer. When the customer finalized the design, Sechan was selected to layout, build, and test new common cards to implement the customer’s desired changes and retrofit all existing fielded units with new common cards.

Sechan has also provided product sustainment for the UAS units for the past ten (10) years. As the sole supplier of the five (5) interface units, Sechan’s depot department includes experienced test technicians who are capable of testing and troubleshooting. Specific to the units, Sechan’s sustainment capability includes evaluation, repair, upgrades, as well as new software loads. Sechan achieved challenging schedules and successfully delivered the five (5) UAS units as a result of our in-house capability to engineer, manufacture, test, qualify, and sustain. Sechan’s support offers our customer a cost-effective solution to continue providing situational awareness and precision targeting support to the U.S. military.
